Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, who aim to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players primarily use their feet to move the ball, but they may use their bodies, excluding their arms and hands, with the exception of the goalkeeper, who can handle the ball within their penalty area.

Football involves a combination of skill, strategy, and teamwork, with players executing various maneuvers such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending. The game is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, which cover aspects such as fouls, offside, and free kicks.

Globally, football is one of the most popular sports, with numerous professional leagues and an extensive international tournament scene, including the FIFA World Cup. The term “football” can refer to different variations of the sport, but in most countries, it specifically denotes association football, also known as soccer in North America.
